Robotic Surgery

Making Surgery Even Less Invasive at Chennai

We at our centre are at the forefront of several medical advancements such as getting to be one of the leading cancer research centres. We at our centre already have expertise in minimally invasive surgery in:

  • Urology
  • GI surgery
  • Gynaecology

Faith Health city is focussed on making these procedures even more effective by continually investing in latest tools, technologies and training. With this in view we have introduced robotic surgery and will extend the benefits further to include the following surgical specialities:

  • Head and Neck Oncology
  • Cardiothoracic surgery
  • Otolaryngology (ENT)

Get the advantage of Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery is a type of minimally invasive surgery. This means operating on patients through small holes rather than making big incisions. The biggest advantage of robotic surgery is to give the surgeon unparalleled control in a minimally invasive environment. Robotic surgery offers higher precision, flexibility and control when compared to the conventional laparoscopic surgery and much better anatomical clarity as compared to open surgery.

The patient has the following benefits

  • Fewer complications such as surgical site infection/blood loss
  • Less pain
  • Quick Recovery
  • Smaller and lesser noticeable scars

How is it done?

While the patient is under anaesthesia, three robotic arms and the video camera are inserted through small incisions on the body. The surgeon then sits in front of a computer console which provides him with a 3D view of the operating field and controls through which the robotic arms can be manipulated. The robotic arms have tiny wrists which bend in several directions which increases the dexterity and fine manipulation beyond the capability of the human hand.

This is a significant advancement over laparoscopic surgery which allows for less clear vision and allows only rigid instruments to be used therefore reducing the manoeuvrability inside the operating environment.

When is it preferred?

Robotic surgery is gradually becoming the standard of care for certain surgeries especially surgery involving the pelvic organs such as the prostate, bladder, colon and rectum. The surgeon decides based on the condition of the patient & complexity of the disease if the procedure is suitable for that patient.

Robotic surgery has changed the experience of patients as they undergo surgery and over 3 million procedures have been performed across the world.

Benefits of Robotic Surgery

  • It brings down post-surgical complications such as infections, smaller incision, provides better cosmesis and lesser chances of developing hernia.
  • It reduces blood loss and trauma.
  • It allows quicker recovery.
  • Yields excellent cosmetic and functional outcomes.

The advances in technology have made recovery faster. The stay in the hospital has been significantly reduced from weeks to days or hours.

The goal of our team of professionals is to provide the patient with a safe journey through the hospital with the best possible outcome which is why our facility will be the first choice if, in the future, you find yourself in need of hospital services.
